Section 1 – Los Angeles, CA

The Purple Line Extension is a heavy rail subway line that extends the existing Purple Line adding seven new subterranean stations. The project is being delivered in three sections; Pacifica is providing support for Section 1, which is a 3.9 mile extension beginning in Koreatown at the Wilshire/Western station, and adding three new stations: Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax, and Wilshire/La Cienega.

The route provided many challenges during tunneling, including tar sands, methane, dewatering, hydrogen sulfide gas and archaeological finds. Pacifica is serving as the Principal Level Environmental Specialist, providing services including:

  • Planning, implementing, and overseeing environmental compliance and protection programs.

  • Planning and performing complex environmental reviews and analyses and providing technical leadership to professional and support staff on specific environmental areas and policies.

  • Ensuring compliance with appropriate environmental regulations, assessing site contamination by inspecting facilities, collecting samples, conducting tests, and coordinating and filing reports with regulatory agencies.

  • Ensuring compliance with the Monitoring Mitigation Reporting Program and adherence to the Environmental Impact Report, Environmental Impact Assessment, and Construction and Operations Environmental Compliance for Hazardous Materials policies.

  • Managing of contract changes pertaining to waste management and resource conservation.

  • Coordinating with Metro staff regarding construction noise, CEQA and NEPA monitoring and reporting with historical buildings, archaeology, ­paleontology, and Native American interactions.
