The Long Beach Airport Terminal Area Improvements project is a design-build project that is taking place across the entire landside portion of this fully operational international airport. Structural work consists of a seismic retrofit and restoration to the 1941-era historic terminal. Additional construction includes a new ticketing building; a new Checked Baggage Inspection System (CBIS) facility; new baggage claim systems; new concession spaces; a new public plaza; restroom renovations; new rental car counters and parking lot; ground transportation facility improvements; and roadway and signage improvements. Close coordination is critical with Landside and Airside Operations from the beginning of the design-build process through the end of construction to reduce security concerns, minimize interruptions, and allow for continuity of building services.
