Since 1997, LAUSD has embarked on an unprecedented capital improvement program that has grown to a total budget of over $32 billion—the largest new school construction and modernization program in the history of the United States. Since 2010, Pacifica has been providing environmental planning and reporting for both new construction and modernizations.
Pacifica provides support in two distinct areas:
California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Reports and Monitoring: Our staff is responsible to ensure that LAUSD projects comply with CEQA regulations. They provide support in the development of program Environmental Impact Reports, Historic Resource Inventories and review projects for their adherence to CEQA requirements. The team visits construction sites to confirm conformance with mitigation monitoring or reporting programs and review third-party projects with the potential to impact District schools and provide comments on behalf of LAUSD, requesting additional measures or conditions of approval to mitigate potential impacts to students and staff.
Site and Environmental Assessments Management: Pacifica provides support to LAUSD’s Office of Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS) by overseeing environmental consulting firms who are providing environmental site assessments, or removal/remedial processes at various sites. The team interacts with regulatory agencies to provide environmental project determinations and coordinate comments and updates requesting by the agencies. We also represent the district in public presentations on site assessment issues for new construction or modernization projects throughout the District.
