Long Beach Unified School District teamed with the California Environmental Protection Agency Department of Toxic Substances (DTSC) on a soil removal and improvement project at Fremont Elementary School. Not prompted by a safety risk, this project was undertaken to ensure environmental health and safety and protect all students, teachers and administrators at the school.

The project involved extensive site assessments, detailed planning, and the deployment of specialized equipment and techniques to safely identify and remove soil in the crawl spaces of several buildings at the site. The soil excavations were accomplished using a combination of hand-held tools and vacuum excavation methods, and over 100 tons of were transported off-site to waste management facilities.

Following the removal of soil, fresh soil was brought in, and areas were re-established/repaved as needed to blend seamlessly with their surroundings, ensuring both functionality and aesthetic appeal.

Pacifica provided project oversight during the soil remediation and removal process, and completed the project documentation required by the State of California.
